Meet our Team

Dr Peter Beven

Global Business Challenge
QUT Graduate School of Business

Peter is the Director Industry Projects with the QUT Graduate School of Business and Director of the Global Business Challenge. Peter teaches strategy, innovation, Intellectual Property Management and business planning in a number of advanced executive level programs. Peter is an advisor to government and industry in innovation, strategy and commercialisation and is a founder and co-owner of a portfolio of technology ventures. He is an investment advisor to two private venture funds and sits on the boards of a number of private and public corporations.

He holds a PhD in Technology Management and Masters degrees in both Intellectual Property Law and Economics.

Bob O’Connor

Executive Director
QUT Graduate School of Business

Bob leads the QUT Graduate School of Business (GSB), a multidisciplinary school that specialises in MBA and executive development programs designed to transform individuals as skilful leaders in today’s complex business and project environments.

Prior to this appointment in 2011, Bob held the University roles of Director Corporate Education, Business Manager, and General Manager and Company Secretary of QUT Enterprise Holdings Pty Ltd, the university’s holding company for commercial ventures.

Bob’s first career was in the information technology sector with global and Australian hardware, software and services companies. He commenced as a software engineer and subsequently took on a range of marketing and management roles. As General Manager he led the dynamic growth of an Australian software company that listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in February 2000.

Today his interests are in education relevant to project and program leadership, contracting, intellectual property and governance. Bob is also active in international Business School accreditation agencies and is a CEDA Trustee for QUT.

Associate Professor Christopher Fleming

MBA Director
Griffith Business School

Christopher Fleming is an Associate Professor and MBA Director at Griffith Business School, a founding member of the Griffith Centre for Sustainable Enterprise, a member of Griffith University’s Cities Research Centre, and a Senior Associate of MainStream Economics and Policy.

An applied micro-economist with teaching, consulting and public policy experience, Christopher’s research and consulting interests include, social and economic project/program evaluation, natural resource and environmental economics, economic development, the economic determinants of subjective wellbeing, the economics of crime and the sustainable management of natural resources.

Prior to joining Griffith Business School, Christopher worked as a senior consultant for Marsden Jacob Associates and as a senior advisor within the Sustainable Development Policy Group of the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment.

Dr Jessica Gallagher

Deputy Director (Global Engagement)
BA (Hons) Qld, PhD Qld, GAICD The University of Technology

Dr Jessica Gallagher is the Deputy Director and Head (Global Engagement) at The University of Queensland (UQ) where she is responsible for the management of the UQ Global Engagement office within the broader external engagement portfolio. In this capacity, she is responsible for the strategic development and coordination of UQ’s international partnerships, agreements, scholarships and a wide range of global programs designed to showcase and extend UQ’s reach and reputation.

Jessica has over a decade of experience in senior engagement and higher education roles. Prior to joining UQ Global Engagement, she was the Director of the Office of Undergraduate Education/UQ Advantage Office, where she oversaw the development of a wide range of professional development, international mobility and enrichment programs for UQ students, including the UQ Advantage Award program. She has also held senior positions in the UQ Graduate School and Office of Prospective Students and Student Equity.

Jessica is a research affiliate and sessional lecturer in the School of Languages and Cultures. She holds a PhD in Comparative Cultural Studies from The University of Queensland and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Ali Buckland

GBC Coordinator
QUT Graduate School of Business

Ali is a Learning Design Associate for QUT’s Graduate School of Business, where she provides high level support for clients on the Executive and Masters of Business Administration programs. Ali has a background in Education, recently completing a Bachelor of Primary Education at Griffith University. She has worked in the education sector, including time at the London School of Economics in the UK, where she has been directly involved in a variety of different and complex projects. Ali has coordinated the GBC since 2016.
